Get fired up about Fired Works at "Collaborations," the new exhibit in the gallery at Macon Arts, opening First Friday, April 3. Eight artists shaped bowls, vases, sculptures, and figures then exhanged work with other artists who glazed them. The results are wild, whimsical and worth a trip to First St. See works by Eileen Braun, John Britt, Meg Campbell, Heather Davis, Susan Feagin, Ken Horvath, Roger Jamison, Diane Mead, Joy Raynor and Kate Tremel, and poet, Gordon Johnston. Meet the artists at the Opening Reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Admission is always free.
"If I were a rich man..." I'd head to the Grand Opera House for Mercer University's production of "Fiddler on the Roof." Luckily tickets are just $10 for students and $15 for adults, you don't have to be rich to enjoy the combined Mercer music and theatre production, featuring a cast of 40 students and faculty. The magical story of "The Secret Garden," comes to life onstage at Theatre Macon, April 3 - 18, in an amazing live musical production. The local chapter of USA Dance offers two great chances to strut your stuff this weekend. On First Friday, Apr. 3, join them at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Dance to your heart's content for $5. Then Saturday, Apr. 4, head to Howard Community Center, on Forsyth Rd., from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. for another dance. Admission is $7 for USAD members, $10 for non members. The hills are alive with "The Sound of Music," the latest musical production at Macon Little Theatre, running April 3 – 12. Steven Kennedy is new to the midstate but not new to art. Check out his recent photographs and paintings in his solo exhibit at the Contemporary Arts Exhchange this First Friday, Apr. 3, from 7 to 11 p.m. The lofts on the corner of 2nd and Mulberry St., above Michael's, house dozens of artists in a variety of mediums. You can meet Steven and many of the CAE artists and browse their studios, "open house" style, for free on First Friday.
Gallery 51 offers four arts workshops this weekend, April 3-5. Learn about Glass Fusing, Concrete Art, Stained Glass and Woodturning at the gallery on West Adams Street in downtown Forsyth. As usual the Cox Capitol Theatre is cranked up for First Friday Weekend. Head down Saturday, Apr. 4, as the Big House presents another stellar Stay’N’Play Concert featuring the Lee Boys with Oteil Burbridge at 8 p.m. for some gospel infused with jazz, rock and funk. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 the day of the show. Then on Sunday, Apr. 5, enjoy Sunday Supper and the family friendly "Pippi Longstocking," at 6 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 for adults, $6 for kids, and include dinner. Two schools offer excellent, free opportunities to enjoy the work of talented students this weekend. Saturday, Apr. 4, Wesleyan College presents Jessica Wimberly in her Senior Voice Recital at 6 p.m. in Burden Parlor at the Olive Swan Porter Building on campus. Then on Monday, Apr. 6, the Mercer University Orchestra performs under the direction of the Macon Symphony Orchestra's maestro, Adrian Gnam. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Fickling Hall at the McCorkle Music Building on campus.
Entertaining the Kids on Saturday? The Georgia Music Hall of Fame presents Pam Blanchard in an interactive, kid-friendly concert on Saturday, Apr. 5, from Noon to 2 p.m. The event is included in regular museum admission, $3.50-$8.
